If something costs one dollar – that’s a good deal, right? Well sometimes, it’s not the best deal you can get.

Dollar Tree is one of the biggest dollar stores in the U.S. And while everything there costs only a dollar, there are many ways you can save even more on your purchases. We asked our Dealspotr community – including some pro coupon bloggers – their hacks for saving money at Dollar Tree. Here’s what they said:

Get cash back on the items you buy most

This winning tip is by Tabitha of the blog Saving for a Better Life. With a few simple cash back apps, you can end up getting big discounts on the items you need most, like toilet paper, soap, etc.

You can absolutely use coupons at Dollar Tree (they do have a 2 printable coupon limit but you can use as many coupons clipped from the newspaper as you want). But even better is that cash back apps like Ibotta can be used there. My favorite to use at Dollar Tree is Mobisave which frequently has $.25 cash back on ANY bath tissue or $.15 cash back on ANY soap. etc (I’ve seen any brand canned goods, toothpaste, paper towels and more – tons of things you find at Dollar Tree!) So you can get cash back on whatever brand you happen to find at Dollar Tree. It makes those $1 items even cheaper!

Use good old manufacturer coupons

One Frugal Girl knows that just like most other stores, Dollar Tree accepts manufacturer coupons on any item. Of course, there are some limitations, i.e. they won’t give you overage for any coupons worth more than the item’s price.

A lot of people don’t know that Dollar Tree accepts manufacturers coupons. That means you can save even more money off an already ridiculously low price. For the biggest bang for your buck use coupons on full sized products which typically include items like dishwashing liquid, hand soap and toothpaste. You can often buy products for just a few cents!

Check the “discount corner”

According to Luis, each Dollar Tree has a discount corner where opened or gently used merchandise is sold at super cheap prices. Make sure to search for this area in your local Dollar Tree to find things for literal pennies.

What lots of people do not know is that in many Dollar Tree stores there is usually a discounted corner. Here you can find 4 for $1 or cheaper – they are discounted because many times they were opened by customers and no one wants to buy them. If you cant find one just ask an employee, they usually know where it is.

Sign up for the Value Seeker loyalty program

If you don’t mind getting emails from Dollar Tree, then Barbara of Barbie’s Beauty Bits has a solution for you.

Buy in bulk, ship for free on Dollar Tree

If you ever need 24 or more of one item (say, you’re throwing a party of some sort) then this is the savings option for you. You can buy things on the Dollar Tree website for $1 per unit, and according to giveawaylover, have them shipped to your local store for free.

When you buy in bulk online you can select free in-store pickup. This can come in handy for all sorts of items, especially party supplies. You can choose among specific colors and themes. You can also buy party favors in bulk. They have items for every type of theme imaginable; pool parties, graduation parties, beach parties, luaus, Easter celebrations and even weddings just to name a few. Purchase these items and have them shipped to your store for free.

Head to the Bonus Buys page

If you are in fact interested in buying in bulk, the Bonus Buys section is the place to visit. There, you can find larger-sized products still for just $1 per unit. Thanks to Alex White for the tip!

Look online for Bonus Buys & Closeouts, found under the “Xtreme Values” tab.  Bonus Buy products come in larger sizes, still for just $1.  Some of the items in the Closeout section such as vases would be great for crafters.  Again, you will need to purchase by the case.

Look for your local paper and brand name items at a discount

If you normally get your coupons from the newspaper, there’s even a way to save on that at Dollar Tree! Emile says that your local paper can be purchased at a discount in store, saving you money on saving money.

Some Dollar Trees carry the local paper for a discounted price. This way you can even save on those coupons (in the newspaper) that we look for every time! Also, Dollar Tree has the tendency to carry major brands sometimes, especially in terms of bread. Get all those brands and freeze them to cut out your monthly bill of bread. Implementing all these hacks, plus cash back apps, I’ve saved around $30+!

Pay attention to the price per unit

One dollar sounds like a great deal. However, you may be getting less than you would at a regular store for the price – something Ashley Drewes of Closet of Free Samples warns about.

Remember that NOT everything at Dollar Tree is a deal. $1 sounds great, but some things really aren’t worth it and you can find better deals elsewhere. Know your prices. For instance, bread is a great buy at $1 if you can catch the full loaf sizes (it always varies at my location). However, Paying $1 for travel sized items is actually a bit more expensive than paying 97¢ at Walmart. Not a huge difference, but when you’re trying to make the most out of your money, paying attention the pricing and the quantity you are getting can make all the difference.
