The Honest Company recently sent me products to try and review. If you don’t know who the Honest Company is, let me give you a little background. The Honest Company was founded by Jessica Alba and Christopher Gavigan, who as  parents wanted to find products that weren’t filled with harsh chemicals and harmful toxins.  They both wanted a product that was effective,  safe, eco-friendly,  convenient, affordable and did I mention adorable.

Like most mommies I am game for trying anything new, specifically if it is safe, free of toxins and eco-friendly. I was contacted by the company to select products to review and was thrilled to try something different. While my review is my honest positive opinion for this company, I will never accept compensation for a positive review. Please assure that I am giving you my genuine review.

For my product selection I choose the following:

honest company
Conditioner $9.95

Honest Company
Diapers (Workshop Print) $13.95

Honest Company

Conditioner

Let me first start with the conditioner. I am a conditioner addict. I have tried just about every product on the market in my own hair when it comes to conditioners. For my son I have been testing products and trying to find the best match for his very dry hair, but I am a bit cautious because of all the chemicals in things. First before I give you my opinion let me explain why I picked this product. My son experienced eczema on his head and body when he was a newborn and still continues to have dry spots from time to time. I found that over the counter products were to harsh for him and despite the doctor recommendation, it just did not seem to help. His hair was not growing and he continued to have very dry hair. I have been treating his hair with my homemade oil blend (coconut oil, almond oil and glycerin), water. plus applying a brand name shea butter conditioning cream for kids and it is still dry. So when given the chance to try the Honest Company brand I decided to give the conditioner a try because of the customer reviews and the product ingredients. It contains the following:

INGREDIENTS:

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract*, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Orbignya Speciosa Kernel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Protein, Hydrolyzed Quinoa, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Hydroxypropyl Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Esters, Panthenol, Caprylyl Glycol, Triethyl Citrate, Citric Acid

*Organic Ingredient

All these things were not far from what I was already trying. So I decided to try eliminating shampooing his hair and trying co-washing (which is simply washing with conditioner only)his hair with the conditioner and using my oils. Co-washing is how I handle my hair, so it is probably what is best for him as well.  After a few washes his hair is much softer. I am hoping over time with this continued routine that I can combat the dryness. Right now I love the smell and how easy his hair is to comb after it is washed. I would definitely recommend this product.

Diapers

Moving along to the diapers.  I received a 20 pack of the size 5 in the workshop print. At first touch the diapers are thinner than other brands. I didn’t let that bother me. These diapers despite their thinness were extremely absorbent.

Here is what they are made of

MATERIALS:

Totally Chlorine-Free (TCF) Wood Pulp (From Certified Sustainably Managed Forests, No Optical Brighteners), Absorbent Bio-Core (Wheat/Corn Polymer Blended With Sodium Polyacrylate), Plant-Based PLA (Inner & Outer Layers), Non-Toxic Adhesives (In Seams & Joints), Polymer Spandex & Polyolefin (In Leg/Waist System), Polyurethane (In Waist Padding), Ink (Free Of Lead & Heavy Metals In Printed Backsheet), Citrus Extract & Liquid Chlorophyll (Natural Acting Odor Blockers In Bio-Core)

Honest company diapers
My son is a busy baby and new walker. I had no problem with the diaper coming undone, or any blow outs. It fit him comfortably and I must say I do like the cute prints. As you can see my little guy has chubby legs, he weighs about 26 pounds. The Honest Company has a tool on the website that will help you select a size based on the baby’s weight. It was very accurate in selecting our size.

The prices are comparable to other companies and you can buy them by the bundle which saves you money. You can get the bundles for a reasonable price. Bundles include 6 packages of diapers, 4 packages of wipes all for $79.95 and you receive these monthly. You can manage your shipments. What is great is that the Honest Company offers free trials. You can try the diapers for a only $5.95. Check out my previous post on how to get a Free Honest Company Trial.

My  little boy is the joy of life and I love to see him explore the world around him. If he can do it safely with the Honest Company I am glad to be able to provide that for him. This is a brand I highly recommend.  Currently they have the New Winter Diaper Prints and new customers receive $10 off a minimum purchase of $25 with promo code GET10 .  I hope my review is helpful and you are able to make a decision. Enjoy!
